Detailed Directions for installing Sun’s Java Virtual Machine v5.0 update 6 (or above):
1. Disable Anti-virus and firewall software.
2. Close all other open applications with the exception of Internet Explorer, or the current web browser you are using.
3. Click on the Get Java Link to go to Sun Microsystems’s Website.
4. Click on the banner that says “Download Now. It’s Free!”
5. If a security warning appears onscreen, Read the Security Warning, make sure it says “Java Plug-in 5.0 ” and click “yes”
6. The Java VM installation program will begin downloading automatically. Download time will vary depending on your connection speed.
7. The license Agreement will be displayed after the download is finished.
It should also indicate that you are installing
the Java 2 Runtime Environment, v5.0
8. Click “yes” to proceed with the installation.
9. Choose “typical” and click next
10. The Download page should say “Congratulations! ….”
12. The login Applet should now load. It will look as follows:

If at steps 5 or 7, in the process, you are told that a version older than 5.0 is downloading/installing then click “cancel” or “no” and follow these directions:
1. Click here to go to sun’s manual download page for the Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition version 5.0
2. You want to download the JRE (Java Runtime Environment) for your operating system. Most likely Microsoft Windows. The same JRE works on all versions of Windows (95/98/98SE/ME/NT/2000 Pro/XP Home/XP Pro).
3. The SDK version is a much larger download and includes many files not needed for using java applets and programs.
4. Double click on the downloaded executable file. And follow steps 7-12 above.

Please Note: 5.0, update 6 is the minimum version needed to run this applet.
Any higher version number will also allow you to run the login applet.
