American Heart Association Classes Offered through HLC:
Heartsaver AED
This course is appropriate for: anyone who is not a healthcare provider.
Course Purpose: This course is the preferred course to teach integrated CPR and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) to non-healthcare providers. The course is focused on Adult CPR, use of an AED on adult victims, and relief of Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO). The infant and child component of the Heartsaver CPR course can be added to this course to provide broader knowledge base.

Heartsaver CPR
This course is appropriate for: anyone who is not a healthcare provider.
Course Purpose: This course is taught in two segments. The first segment focuses on Adult CPR and relief of Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO), aka choking. The second segment focuses on infant and child CPR and relief of FBAO. The segments can be taught as separate classes or together as a single class. For example, a retirement home may choose a class that consists solely of the adult CPR segment, whereas a daycare facility could choose a class that consists solely of the infant and child CPR segment. This course is designed for non-healthcare providers who are required to complete a CPR course.

Heartsaver First Aid with CPR and AED
This course is appropriate for: anyone who is not a healthcare provider.
Course Purpose: This is the general public's total solution in one package. This course contains four core modules, General Principles, Medical Emergencies, Injury Emergencies and Environmental Emergencies. The modules teach responders how to manage illness and injuries in the first critical minutes before professional help arrives. Included with the class is instruction and practice performing CPR and using an AED. While the CPR and AED are not as comprehensive as the Heartsaver CPR and Heartsaver AED classes, it is typically adaquete for anyone interested in knowing the basics of First Aid, CPR, and AED, in a time efficient class.
Course Length: typically 7 hours

Heartsaver First Aid
This course is appropriate for: anyone who is not a healthcare provider.
Course Purpose: This course contains four core modules, General Principles, Medical Emergencies, Injury Emergencies and Environmental Emergencies. BLS for Healthcare Providers
This course is appropriate for: Healthcare Providers, (i.e. physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physician's assistants, aides, medical students in training, etc)
Course Purpose: This course is designed to teach the skills of CPR for victims of all ages, use of AED (Automated External Defibrillator), and relief of Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO). This course is designed for anyone who provides health care to patients, or is required to take a healthcare provider course for employment.
Course Length: typically takes 6-8 hours.

CPR for Family and Friends
This course is appropriate for: school children, family members of patients at risk for sudden cardiac death, and anyone who is not a healthcare provider.
Course Purpose: promote widespread training in CPR, provide information to train participants in the skills of adult, infant and child CPR and relief of Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO) for responsive victims. Training is focused toward the rescue of family members or friends. This course is not designed for participants who are required to attend a CPR course for the workplace.
